He'e
I have an obsession with octopi (is that the plural of octopus?). Unless you are a diver, it's rare to see one of these gorgeous creatures. They like their privacy, preferring the solitude of nooks and crannies rather than open water. Recently realized that I have a small collection of t-shirts with octopus on them. As someone who practices yoga, I'm also fascinated by the fact that they have 8 arms. In yoga, there are a set of ideals that are essential to a dedicated practice. These are called the 8 Limbs. The octopus is a visual reminder of those ideas, 8 important ideas radiating from the center "Self". This is an image I've been developing for a work in progress. Not a literal interpretation of the octopus, but hopefully an image that captures the elegance of the creature Hawaiians call "he'e".
