I've been working on a couple long-term projects which I won't be able to share for awhile. But in the meantime, wanted to share a result of a web-wandering afternoon of procrastination.
I came across a video of one of my favorite illustrators Dick Bruna. I've always loved the simplicity of his black line work and flat, graphic colors—so I gave it a try. It felt so good to sit at my light table with pencil, pen and ink and
draw/paint careful lines. Instead of my usual technique of textures and
complex palette, I limited myself to 8 colors. I tried to use just 5
(like Bruna), but could not resist adding more.
Bruna's simple "less is more" technique seemed a humorous way to communicate the idea of how more can be less. 24/7 connection resulting in many people becoming disconnected.
